Mountain/climbing literature:
Sharper Edges by Andy de Klerk
If you are a South African: read it! If you are a climber: read it! Andy makes me itchy to venture to high and beautiful places. He will make you want to do a lot more than clip bolts close to the ground.
Kiss or Kill by Mark Twight
I wanted to punch him in the face by around the third chapter but this truly is a great piece of writing. Incredibly inspiring. Twight's overpowering ego and disregard for humanity helped me understand the lonely but incredible world of alpine climbing.
Climbing Free by Lynn Hill
Every climber should place this on their to read list. It is an autobiographical account of Lynn Hill's journey from small town girl to El Cap' superstar.
A Climber's guide to Kwa-Zulu Natal Rock by Roger Nattrass
The guide to my local crags. A brilliant book to have on the shelf, an even better tool for a road trip to KZN or for a KZN local.
Performance Rock Climbing by Dale Goddard and Udo Neumann
I believe that this book is no longer i nprint but if you can beg, borrow or steal a cop it is a fantastic training tool if you'd like to climb hard grades or just push your own limits.
Interesting or inspiring reads:
Drive by Daniel H. Pink
This book will change the way you view motivation. It will help you in climbing and business. Teachers, coaches, students and athletes will benefit from reading this book
My favourite novels:
Snow falling on Cedars by David Gutterson
If you are human this book will move you, make you smile, laugh and weep. I cannot describe what this book did for me. It is truly beautiful.
I dreamed of Africa by Kuki Galmann
If you want to read about a very beautiful but real pain, written in the most captivating manner then this book is for you.
